We have obtained the necessary approval from the Marine Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Laut Semenanjung Malaysia) (reference no: (4) dlm IPL 241.8-11) to conduct the following IMDG-related courses:

  • Function Specific Load/Unload Cargo Transport Unit
  • General Awareness & Familiaization Course

Update: We have since received full approval from the Marine Department of Malaysia to conduct the said courses.

Introduction

The latest amendment to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code (amendment 34-08) became mandatory effective 1 January 2010. Hence, it requires all shore-based personnel involved in the handling, packing, transporting, storing, etc. of dangerous goods to receive training so as to familiarise with the general provisions of the IMDG Code. Referring to the Malaysian Shipping Notice (Notis Perkapalan Malaysia (NPM)) 13/2009, issued by the same authority dated 17 Sept 2009.

As it is mandatory, the competent authority, or its authorised body, may audit the entity to verify the training provided to the staff and its effectiveness. Therefore, entities shall start training their staff in order to comply with the provisions of the IMDG Code and the regulatory requirements.

Course Objectives

The course objective is to train shorebased personnel in understanding and application of the IMDG Code to enable them to safely and efficiently perform their role in the transport of dangerous goods by sea.

Delivered as interactive modules tailored to job functions or as general awareness training, it minimizes training time away and ensures compliance with IMDG Code provisions.

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the IMDG Code — what the code requires, how it is structured, where the topics are found.
  • Identify the nine (9) hazard classes and the three (3) packing groups.
  • Mark and label a consignment of Dangerous Goods correctly.
  • Use packagings for Dangerous Goods correctly.
